London and Middlesex / Margaret Kirby - Born Ireland 1842
« on: Tuesday 12 January 10 16:44 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for my ggrandmother Margaret Kirby born 1842 Ireland.  She married my ggrandfather Patrick Fraher 1865  St George, Southwark.  However I can't find her on the 1861 or 1851 census.  She may have arrived from Ireland after 1861 (I am also researching the Irish connections) but I had such a great help from Rootschat early last year in finding her marriage that I am hoping that someone will be to work their magic again and be able to find her.

Other leads from the marriage certificate was:

Father (deceased):  John - occupation Farmer  (not in london I sssume!!)
   Witness:  Mary Kirby

Margaret died 1876 - I have all the information on her after 1865.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Adelaide Louise Denham 1906
« on: Wednesday 30 December 09 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I posted last July about my aunt Adelaide Louise.  On the 1911 census (in Merthyr, Wales) I have her at age 5 born Dalston London.  I was unable (and still unable) to find a birth registration for her, and to date have not found a baptism (the London Parish records on Ancestory are only up to 1906 and she is not there).

I have however found numerous passenger records for her.  She was a childrens nanny and travelled widely - 1935 Palestine, 1937 India, 1949 Japan, 1951 USA, etc.

I presume she must have had a birth certificate/record to obtain a passport?

I have to date also not found a death registration for her.  The only positive thing I know is that she did not marry. Not sure if she died abroad.  None of my older brothers can remember what happened to her.

I am just frustrated that a can't find a birth (or death) record. Unfortunately there was no positive result from my last posting, hoping another look might yield something new.

Limerick / Were the parents married?

Hi

Have just identified a baptism of what may be my 3xggrandfather James Fraher in Galbally & Aherlow in 1818.  However whilst the father is shown as Edmond Fraher the mother is shown as Bridget Donough.  There is no note on if the child was born out of wedlock.  Does anyone have any views on if the name Donough was Bridgets maiden name?  On English and Welsh records I have found that an illegitimate child is generally shown as base born and takes the mothers name.

To cloudy the scene a little more I viewed (also on the IFHF site) a baptism of what I hoped would be a sibling for James, a Mary Fraher (Galbally & Aherlow 1817) her father is Edmond Fraher but the mother is Judy Ryan!!

There are other possible Edmond children but at 5 euros a time I thought I would try to secure some more information before further purchases.

A witness on the James baptism was a "Judy Fraher"

Can anyone offer any suggestions?  Two different Edmonds?

Have found no marriages between an Edmond Fraher and either a Donough or a Ryan.

Have recently located ancestors buried at St Peters.  I cannot find any MI so assume that there are none.  I hope to visit sometime early next year - if it ever stops raining - can anyone tell me what sort of condition the graveyard is in.

Glamorganshire / W Rowland - marriage witness Merthyr 1838
« on: Monday 21 September 09 10:54 BST (UK)  »
Have just collected a marriage certificate for a marriage conducted in the Parish church Merthyr in 1838.  One witness is shown as a W Rowland.  I believe that this is either the parish clerk or a professional witness.  Does anybody else have a marriage from the time with a W Rowland as a witness.

Pembrokeshire / Old Melford, Neyland

On another forum a contact has posted that an Ancestor came from Old Melford, Neyland (1783).  I know Neyland (from maps) but not Old Melford.  Have tried google but no result.  Anyone advise on Old Melford?

Glamorganshire / All Souls Catholic Church, Senghenydd
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 15:43 BST (UK)  »
Have come to a complete stop on my wifes paternal grandfather (does'nt want to give up his family!).  However I have been passed a letter written by a supposed nephew who was a priest at All Souls, Senghenydd in 1954.  I am therefore hopeful of finding information about this priest to lead me further.

I have written to the diocese with no response (was'nt expecting really) and I will be going across to Pontypridd library in a week or two to look through the old newspapers, but  I thought I would put a posting here to see if anyone had any particular knowledge of all souls or if other possible research options could be offered.

Glamorganshire / Garnlwyd Cottages, Maesteg 1861
« on: Saturday 29 August 09 12:03 BST (UK)  »
I have just acquired my great grandparents (George Carter and Mary Ann Badger) marriage certificate for 7 October 1861.  At that time they were both recorded as living at Garnlwyd Cottages, Maesteg.  However on the 1861 George was living in Paulton Somerset and Mary Ann in Merthyr.

Does anybody have the census information identifying Garnlwyd Cottages on the 1861 census.

I would like to check if there were any obvious family associations living at Garnlwyd cottages when the census was taken.

Thanks

Ray
