Canada / Margaret Catherine McRae, March 1927, Victoria BC
« on: Thursday 13 August 20 14:31 BST (UK)  »
I have a snippet from a BC newspaper report about the trial of Margaret Catherine McRae accused of murdering her husband Albert F McRae. The snippet says that she was convicted of manslaughter. Unable to read the whole piece but I wonder if anyone in the BC area is able to see what sort of sentence she got and why she was only convicted on manslaughter.  She had actually shot her husband dead in front of a policeman who had escorted him to the family home to retrieve his belongings before leaving her.

Thanks

Abraham Dodd  6  b Ystradyfodwg,
Daniel Dodd 3  b Ystradyfodwg,

Now I have found Abraham Dodd senior on the 1871 census as a lodger and shown as unmarried. But have not found any of the others on the 1871 census.  I have also not found a death for wife Sarah.

I have all the siblings after 1871, it is just the 1871 census I am missing.

Any help please

World War Two / Frederick Evan John
« on: Friday 22 November 19 15:34 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for any information regarding Frederick Evan John, member of the Royal Corp of Signals in WW2. Thought I would try here first before applying through military records.

Frederick Evan John was born in 1916 Cardiff. In 1941 Frederick was in Egypt and was apparently injured or was taken ill and recuperated in Egypt.

Am doing this for a friend and that is all I have at present.  If anyone can help my friend will be extremely grateful.

Am helping a friend research his family.  His father Desire Regis (or Regis Desire) Hook (deceased) was born approx 1937 in Beau Bassin Plaines Wilhems Mauritius. Think his father was Walter.  That is all we know at present.  He did marry in Mauritius, lady surname Amiran but children born UK from 1965 to 1970.  Any help locating any Hook's in Mauritius welcome - Thanks  Ray

Armed Forces / Transportation
« on: Tuesday 10 July 18 09:59 BST (UK)  »
Have found a record for a family member (from 1833) who was transported to Australia for 14 years for a military crimes.  The first crime was desertion but I just can't make out the second crime - hoping a rootschat member can pick it up.  The family member is Robert Foot, shown just below John Robertson who was transported for the same crimes.
