Helping another rootschatter have found a record for soldier who joined the above unit in 1910 and his record shows that he was recorded as a deserter on the 28 Jan 1915.  How would I find if he was returned/captured/sentenced?

Name:  Edward McGuigan
Born:  1893 Shankill, Antrim
Regimental No. 2506

I am helping a friend find out more about her grandfather who was killed on the HMS Hythe in 1943.

He was:  Able Seaman Robert Robertson  P/JX 321336

I have read somewhere that the "P" refers to the home port as Portsmouth and that the "JX" refers to the Seaman being a 12 year service man.

Can anyone confirm/enlarge on this?

My friend says that on her mothers birth certificate (Glasgow 1939) her fathers occupation was given as Driver - with no mention of the Navy?

Robert was born in Scotland (1908) and was living in Glasgow in 1939 (and for all/most of his life as I understand) with wife Agnes and children.

Any other information available about Robert would also be very welcome.

Lanarkshire / Marriage: Robertson to Smith: Glasgow 1925 to 1939
« on: Thursday 22 September 16 14:04 BST (UK)  »
I am helping a friend with her family tree but the Scotlandspeople site is down until next Monday so I thought I would try here to get a head start.

I am looking for the marriage of:

Robert Robertson  (1908 - 1943) to
Agnes Blanche Smith (1909 - 1988)

They had a child in 1939 (at 6 Comely Park Place) which gave the end date for the marriage.

Robert Robertson was killed in 1943 on HMS Hythe when it was sunk by a U-Boat:

I have Agnes parents -  Henry Smith & Agnes Cuthbertson (no marriage as yet) but no parents for Robert.

Any help appreciated

I was hoping to find an obituary for a great aunt - Kate Belle Morris - who died April 1955 (born 1858 New York). She was buried on the 9 April 1955 so I presume that her death would have been around a week earlier.

She was buried in the family grave at Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn but I am not sure of the exact location when she died.  I found her grave when I contacted Cypress Hills on another matter and to my surprise saw her burial.

She had lived in Brooklyn but was in White Plains, Westchester in 1930. I am not sure where she lived at the time of her death but she had family in Mount Vernon in the 1950s'

I contacted Brooklyn Library and they advised they did not have sufficient records for the period and suggest that I contact Queens Library. I contacted Queens and they have advised that they need a letter with an $8 fee for a search.  I live in the UK so that is a long process so I thought that I would try rootschat first before going that route (I did advise them I was in UK).

United States of America / Morris family New York 1870
« on: Thursday 08 September 16 15:18 BST (UK)  »
The Morris family emigrated from Wales to New York in 1850 and I have them on the 1850 & 1855 census.   I also have them on the 1860 census:

Household Members
Name          Age
Charles Morris   39      England (should be Wales)  Boiler Maker
Martha Morris   38      Wales
Charles Morris   14      Wales
Lydia Morris   13      Wales
Thomas Morris   7        New York

New York Ward 13 District 1, New York, New York

and the 1865 census:

Household Members:
Name          Age
Charles Morris   45    England (should be Wales)  Boiler Maker
Martha Morris   45    England  ( " ")
Lydia Morris   18    England  (" ")
Thomas Morris   12    New York
E?Ie Morris     4      New York
Martha Morris   2      New York

Brooklyn, Kings, New York, USA

and 1880 census:

Name         Age
Charles Morris   56     Wales   Boiler Maker
Martha Morris   56     Wales
Lydia Morris   28     Wales
Eva R. Morris   18     New York
Martha Morris   15     New York

New York City, New York, New York

But I cannot find the family on the 1870 census.  I have made all sorts of computations of names, ages and birth places but found nothing. I have all the census information along with deaths, marriages, etc. it is the 1870 that is eluding me.  Would welcome a rootschat search.

United States of America / Florence Coulson: Portland Oregon
« on: Wednesday 20 April 16 20:15 BST (UK)  »
Have been assisting another rootschatter and part of the search is for a person called Florence Coulson.

Now I have found a Florence Coulson (a nurse) in the Portland, Oregon city directory in the years, 1915, 1916, 1920 and 1923, however she is not on the 1920 census.  Now this Florence may or may not be the person be searched for but I am wondering why I cannot find her on the 1920 census when she is resident on the 1920 city directory.

Any advice?

Further to an earlier post, the record also gives reference to Prize Crew, could I get an explanation of that term please.  I attach a not very good copy of the area of service record.

Armed Forces / Royal Naval Reserve Service Record
« on: Monday 21 March 16 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
Have just acquired a RNR record and need some help interpreting the information.  The individual (a Richard Pym) was on the crew of the HMS Hilary but I can't make out if he was actually on board when it was sunk on 25 May 1917.  He went from the HMS Vivid to the Hilary but when?

Other Countries / Pakistan: Lahore: Rana Motor Company/Corporation
« on: Sunday 20 March 16 11:04 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the Rana Motor Company in relation to another topic I raised:

There are numerous hits on google for this company (not sure how old they are) and there are two phone numbers (Phone: 6304758 Fax: 6360573 neither of which are in service) but no email or website.

I have contacted the Lahore Securities Unit (who manage company registrations) but they have no recent information on the company.

I have raised this as a separate topic to see if some fresh eyes can give me some information or advice about if this company still exists and if they do exist how I can make contact with them.
