I am trying to find details of my Grandfather's death. He was born John carter in 1885 in Warrington(Volume 8c Page 187) and died in 1965 in Ashton-Under-Lyne(now Tameside) hospital.I would like to order a Death Certificate, but until I can find more specific details then that looks unlikely.Have tried Free BMD and IGI with no success,so hoping your learned members could help,or give some pointers to where I could find out.Any information will be gratefully received. Brian Carter.

Hi Lesley, thank you for your link to the Lancashire Fusiliers website, but this was the first port of call in my search for details about my great grandfather.I have posted a query on their forum, but sadly their reply was to contact the NA.So until I can get down to Kew I will have to continue the hunt.Once again, thank you. Brian.

Hi Daisy, thanks for your reply. I saw the same info at cassus-belli and similarly to you I didn't have any credits, so was reluctant to purchase credits just for one answer. The other listing on findmypast.com confuses me as I can't find him on any of the casualty rolls so unless there are two lots of casualty rolls or this is a different J Carter I know not. Did you search for him using his service number (4416) or just his name? Bye for now.
Brian Carter

Hi Ken, thanks for the info.As far as I can ascertain he was born about 1865 as he is aged 26 in the 1891 census, but as I mentioned in my post he cannot be found in the 1901 census or the casualty rolls when he would have been about 36. I will try a post on the British Medals Forum and see if that brings any results, and also that link you gave me to the NA. Once again thanks. Brian Carter.

Armed Forces / Boer War info?

I am trying to find information on my great grandfather John Carter. His service number was 4416, and he served in the Lancashire Fusiliers.I know that he was in the 2nd battalion that was attached to the 11th brigade that fought at Spion Kop in January 1900, but I cannot find him in the casualty rolls or the 1901 census which leads me to believe that he survived the campaign. The info I'd like is: (1) What medals would he have been entitled to (2) Would he have fought in the Sudan campaign of 1898 and (3) where would I find more personal details like home address,next-of-kin,siblings etc. Any info or pointers to where I could find out would be greatly appreciated.Yours Sincerely. Brian Carter.

Thanks to everybody for their help.I will certainly try the British Medal Forum first, and dependant on what (if any) information I receive back my next port of call will be  the NA. Once again, thank you.  Brian Carter.
