Lancashire Lookup Requests / Carter family
« on: Tuesday 14 July 09 22:57 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find more information on my fathers side of the family namely Stanley Joseph Carter b13/12/1914 in Salford, and also my grandads John Carter b december 1885 in Warrington. Any chance of finding my grandmothers name off dads birth certificate and also addresses for both dad and grandads births.Any information gratefully received as all I keep getting are births from and to and would cost a small fortune in credits to narrow it down. Thanking you in anticipation,  Brian Carter.

World War Two / Re: Which regiment?

Once again, thanks for your input Pete, just sounded strange having to travel all the way down to London to join your regiment when there's one on your doorstep, but I suppose in times of war the "norm" goes out of the window. I am in the process of sending off to Glasgow for his Service record, just trying to gather all the info I can, to try and ease the process and make it quicker, as by reading some of the posts on here it's not the speediest of processes. Brian.

Thanks for that Pete, just curious though. Dad was born in Salford, so wouldn't he have been in The Lancashire Fusiliers or did they not serve in North Africa, as I thought The Royal Fusiliers were a London Regiment. You're right about the Forage cap though it's only his right ear that's stopping it fall off his head. Brian.

Sorry, but the image wouldn't upload. I'll try again. Hopefully there's another close-up photo to try and identify the cap badge.

World War Two / Which regiment?

This is a photo of my dad taken sometime during WW2, has anyone got any ideas as to which regiment he served in (his Army Service Number was 6467512-CARTER S) and possible location. I know he served in North Africa and was at some point captured by the Italians.

Armed Forces / Frank Adshead 1916-1952
« on: Saturday 11 July 09 18:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I'm new to the site. I'm looking for information on the death of my uncle Frank Adshead who died sometime in 1952. I believe he had a military funeral, which would mean perhaps that either he died in battle, or he was some kind of hero? He was born and lived in the Stockport/Cheshire area so would it be possible to trace this event.
