Hi Laurence.
I originally started this thread. I'm sorry, but I am sure that there is no link between Geary and Garey. I have searched the family some way back and Garey nowhere features.
In a previous message you asked if William George Geary was married twice. That is not so. Our WG married Emily Topp and she bore Winifred and Phyliss. He died in 1950.
Hope this clears up two possible false leads for you.
Good luck and Christmas wishes. JohnCH.

Hi.
Thank you for your message. I don't have anything on a George Arthur Handley, but it does seem too much of a coincidence! I'll have a look through my papers. I should be grateful if any link emerges.
Best wishes,
John Handley

Hi there
My grandad was George Arthur Handley who was born in Cardiff in the late 1800's. The family lived in the Llandaf North area of the city, there may be a connection. I'll do some research.

Regards,
Tony Handley

 :) Hello Linda.

I am the grandson of Walter Geary of Romsey, who was born in Kings Somborne in 1891. He was the son of John Geary and Sarah Vane. Walter married Florence Wheeler in 1922. She was born in Michelmersh in 1890. Walter left K.Somborne. to work first as a fishmonger, then later on the Mountbatten Estate, eventually becoming Head Water Bailiff there for 50 years, until his death in 1971. I should love to hear of your Geary connections and am hoping you may be able to shed some light on Walter's brother (poss. George) and mother, which was what this original request was about on rootschat.

If you would prefer, I can be contacted at my private email which I can send to you.

Best wishes.
I look forward to hearing from you.    JohnCH.

I can remember the Coronation and the children's party very well. There is a degree of austerity everywhere in this photograph, which tells me that it's earlier. There would have been street bunting too and most houses would be displaying some flags etc. from their upper windows, as was the case in 1953. We had to take with us our own knife fork and spoon, with a beaker and a plate, [all identifiable] and there would have been much more evidence of food than there is in this image. We also had crackers and party hats!
That IS a bomb/blast shelter, so that convinces me that it's late 1940s.  John CH.

Man in the foreground gives the impression of being the subject of the photograph, or is wrong to suppose that he could be possibly the licensee.
