Hi

I am wondering if anyone is able to repair and restore this photo at all.  It is the first and only photo I have seen of my great grandmother.  I scanned it using our photocopier at work at 600dpi and I hope this suffices.  That was the highest setting we had!

I would be very very grateful for anything you can do.

Thank you :)

Sussex Lookup Requests / Risbridgers - 1700s in Cuckfield or Horsham
« on: Friday 27 June 14 10:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Just wondering if anyone has any Risbridger in their tree from either Cuckfield or Horsham in the 1700s.

I have an Edward Risbridger who died and was buried in Horley, Surrey in 1838.  The burial says he was 73 so I have been searching for a few years for an Edward in Surrey born 1765 for ages with no luck.

A recent contact through SFHG suggested trying Horsham as there were known to be Risbridgers there and lo and behold this morning I found Edward Risbridger baptised 26 May 1765 to Robert and Sarah at Horsham.

I have searched for marriages and burials for this Edward in Sussex and found none suggesting he could well be mine.

The marriage of his parents appears to be
Robert Risbridge and Sarah Jupp on 27 July 1759 at Cuckfield.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any of these Sussex people in their tree and can say whether or not the Edward could well be mine or whether they know that it is not!

I'm just off to check an atlas and see how far Horsham is from Horley!

Thanks

Sussex / Anybody live near Hurstpierpoint
« on: Monday 25 November 13 18:07 GMT (UK)  »
Just wondering if anyone lives near Hurstpierpoint?   If you do, would you be able to check on a memorial in the church there.  A memorial for Elizabeth Thorpe, wife of John Thorpe and she died 1624.  I'm after a photo if at all possible?

Thanks for any help anyone can give. :D

Brilliant I thought! All these records I have been collecting for my Lincs families I can now download the prs for from Findmypast.

Unfortunately there seems to be a page missing for one that I want to collect:

Jonathan Graves and Allison Wright at Ulceby on 17 July 1834  She was a widow.

I am wondering if anyone has sight of the parish records for Ulceby?

Technical Help / Printer problems
« on: Friday 31 May 13 09:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I don't know whether anyone can help?

I have suddenly started having problems with my laptop and printer.  I can't print anything from Word, the web, Excel etc  Can only print pdfs so I have to create everything into pdf first and then print.

I have a Dell Studio laptop with Windows 7, and an HP lazerjet printer which until recently had worked fine.  In excel the message that comes up is
'your file could not be printed due to an error on HP Lazerjet 1020 on Ne01'

I'm not too sure what Ne01 refers to, as my printer is plugged into a USB001?

Can anyone help please?

England / Joseph Weatherby 1910ish to 1940ish
« on: Monday 27 May 13 15:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have been researching a friend's family history and have completely stuck with her grandfather.  Sadly her dad died some 10 years ago or so and so she has nobody to ask and had little information.

We started researching from her father's birth:
Anthony Joseph Weatherby born 13 June 1938 at 19 Clifton Street, Shoreditch.  Father - Joseph Weatherby.  Mother Rose Weatherby formerly Brown.  Joseph was a commercial representative.

There was also a twin brother born same day - Derek.

She told me all she knew about Joseph was that he died in Irish Sea during WW2 and was in the Merchant Navy.

Rose remarried in 1951 to a Stanley Brown - marriage I have found on Ancestry in Romford, Essex.

Easy I thought, however apart from the birth of Anthony and Derek I have not been able to find any records for a Joseph Weatherby in London or Essex or for that matter anywhere else.  No birth, no marriage to Rose Brown and no death during WW2, not even on CWGC.  There is one Alfred Bernard Weatherby who died 1943 on there but following him back he was born 1891 and married a Florence Wells so I don't think it is him.  I checked out the Merchant Navy records on Findmypast which end 1941 - no luck there.

I did wonder whether maybe Joseph and Rose did not marry, but then would Rose have remarried as Weatherby?

Is anyone else able to give this a fresh perspective, some other way of searching maybe, or just something I have missed!  :-\

Sussex / Thomas and Ann Agate of Cowfold
« on: Monday 08 October 12 15:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Does anyone have this couple in their tree?

I have Sarah Agate baptised at Cowfold on 28 April 1789 with siblings:
Thomas 1781, Ann 1785, Mary 1787 and James 1793 all to Thomas and Ann at Cowfold.

This appears to be their marriage on 20 April 1780 at Beeding (presumably Upper)
Marriage licence - Thomas Agate, bachelor and farmer of Cowfold, Ann Miles, spinster of Beeding
sponsors: TA, Peirce Miles, Beeding, Yeoman.

Possible burials for them:
Thomas Agates buried at Bolney on 8 August 1804, age 59 years - so born 1745

Ann Agate buried at Bolney on 19 January 1842, age 84 years - so born 1758

That is as far as I can get, despite extensive searching on the SFHG database I cannot find a baptism for Thomas, there are some possibilities for Ann but nothing I can pin down.

I thought that Pierce Miles might be a clue and found the following:
Percival Miles married Ann West on 3 June 1754 at Nuthurst.

Pierce Miles was buried at Nuthurst on 11 April 1806 (of Cowfold) 81 years so born 1725.  This must be the same chap but that were the only two records I could find for him, no baptisms with him as a father.

Piercey Milles baptised 18 April 1762 at Nuthurst to Thomas and Elizabeth.

I did Google searches but there is nothing concrete, just a few mentions of a Thomas Agate having an illegitimate child in 1771 with an Elizabeth Walder, but I don't think it is the same Thomas Agate.  I could be wrong but the various mentions on websites are all very mixed up including a marriage for Thomas and Elizabeth but Elizabeth clearly died as Walder in Bolney and long after Thomas married Ann and a mention that Thomas was born 1705 and so was nearly 70 when he fathered Elizabeth's child and would have been when he married Ann and they had their children and so I am ignoring most of it.

Does anyone have this family in their tree or can suggest any other help.

Thanks

Kerry  :)

Sussex Lookup Requests / Request for help with Eastwoods in Sussex/Kent
« on: Tuesday 14 February 12 13:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I am posting this here - a recent private message that I was sent and I have not had chance to look at it.  Too busy with the current assessment on the genealogy course I am studying so was wondering if any of you Sussex Rootschatters out there might be able to help Caroline!  ;D

Hi

I'm new to RootsChat, so please excuse any faux pas.  I'm trying to trace the Eastwood family decscended from William & Philadelphia Eastwood of Burwash, as I am descended from their grandson John.  However, in the 1861 census both John, his wife Ann (nee Reynolds) & their daughter Phoebe, & John's parents & siblings all appear to drop into a black hole.  Have you any idea what happened to them?  I'm assuming John jr was living near Dartford, as Phoebe was born 1860 Crockenhill, & their 2nd daughter Harrient was born 1862 Hook Hill, Wilmington, Dartford, which are only about 5 miles apart.

Any pointers towards possible sources would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Caroline

Thanks

Kerry

PS I will post this thread in a pm back to Caroline so that she knows!

Technical Help / Downloading images from ancestry - difference between chrome and FF
« on: Saturday 14 January 12 09:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Has anyone else noticed when downloading images of census returns etc through Chrome browser they are much much less resolution than in Firefox and does anyone have any idea why this should be?

For instance I downloaded the same census return via Chrome - 63kb and unreadable.  Firefox - 174kb and much more readable.

Tried it with some others and the same results.  Both browsers I now have to right click on the image as the big orange Save button on the ancestry page no longer works.
