Deane is just outside Bolton and about 14 miles away from Gorton.

The Genuki Lancashire page has a list of towns and parishes with maps. It also has the facility to find the distance between two towns as the crow flies. May help you to get your bearings and work out where in Lancs the towns are.

You may also find the www.lan-opc.org.uk site of use. The last few of their children were baptised in Gorton. The family were living in Openshaw and John was a Publican.

Now that’s a website I could get lost in. Thank you for the link, I shall study.  I found the Genuki page earlier and there is quite a lot of use on there.

Hi

Does anyone have the following family on their tree:

John Thelwell married Martha Marsh on 31 December 1782 in Deane, Lancashire, (found on familysearch.org)

From probable burials:
John buried at Gorton 1833 aged 77 years so born about 1756
Martha buried at Gorton 1825 aged 64 years so born about 1761

I have their children and records going forward, it is backwards that I am currently struggling with.  I am also struggling with the parishes, I don't know Manchester at all so don't know how these parishes link up so if anyone knows of a quick online parish map I would appreciate a link.

Thank you

Thank you for the image, much appreciated.  Not one I am ever likely to be able to snap myself - sadly!

Hi Dee

I've just had a look at my tree and I have him on it, and his wife Hannah Mitchell.  Maybe he just wasn't baptised?  I have just checked the tree that I was provided with when I joined the Harmer Family Association and he is on the tree there also, as Samuel and Phoebe's son.  Not sure where their information came from but that must be where I got mine from.  I come down through their last son, Robert Carey born 1814.

Technical Help / Re: Windows 10 April update
« on: Saturday 26 May 18 10:44 BST (UK)  »
I finally gave up on my 11 year old Dell laptop as it just wouldn't update anything.  Bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop, very nice and had trouble updating some of the ver 1709 updates but then the day after I bought it updated the 1803 ver and now everything fine and dandy.  Only took about 4 hours to update in all but we have a slow broadband here.

My main worry was having a laptop I could run Family Historian on and that is fine too so I am happy. :)

The Lighter Side / Re: Who Do You Think You Are 2018 celebs named

Thanks Lizzie and I'm looking forward to it.  Some names I know better than others but I prepare to be surprised.

Yes it may be a bit dated but I would still prefer to watch wdytya than the endless antique, cooking, reality tv or endless football which now seems to be every flipping night!

I received the Windows 10 update on my work laptop yesterday, took about 5 hours which wasn't too bad, nothing like the last one.  Now just got to sort this laptop at some point.
