London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1 York Rd, Lambeth – who owned it?
« on: Thursday 08 October 15 07:16 BST (UK)  »
Please could some kind person help me find out who owned 1 York Road, Lambeth in 1881?
It is described in the census as "gardener's cottage" but I would like to know who was the gardener's employer. This end of York Road is at Westminster Bridge and it is possible the cottage belonged to Lambeth Palace, or even to Buckingham Palace (family stories say the gardener in question was working for: 1. Queen Victoria; 2. Kew; 3. someone important) – so it could be anyone!
Many thanks.

Armed Forces / Unknown photo – where and when?
« on: Monday 23 March 15 09:15 GMT (UK)  »
This photo was in an album found in Scotland – thought to be the Braid and Anderson family from St Andrews, Fife, end of 19th century probably, though some photos could be later.
I can't place these people but the hats look Australian to me – does anyone know where they are from and what date? Back of photo states Harrismith Studio, T F Andrews Photographer. Is this South Africa or Australia? Any help would be much appreciated.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Lookup please. Birth record CARVETH
« on: Sunday 07 June 09 05:17 BST (UK)  »
Please could some kind person have a go at finding the birth record for CAROLINE CARVETH?

I know she married Kenneth Banks on 1 July 1821 in St Austell.
Her grandfather was Richard Carveth b 1748, Probus, Cornwall.

I suspect she was born about 1800 and her father was possibly Thomas Carveth b 1771, Probus.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Look up please— St Austell marriage CARVETH - BANKS
« on: Sunday 07 June 09 03:22 BST (UK)  »
Please would some kind person with access to the original registers do a look up for me?
I don't even know if this is possible — are they accessible?

I am trying to find out who was the father of my GGG Grandmother CAROLINE CARVETH.
I know she married KENNETH (it should have been Kennett) BANKS on 1 july 1821 in St Austell; witnesses Margaret Carveth and Anna Carveth.

Did the records have father's names back then? It would help me heaps to know who he was.
I know her grandfather was Richard b 1748 as he mentioned her in his will, but which of his sons was her father is a mystery. :-\
So, for that matter, is her date of birth (maybe 1800?) but that's another story.....

Many thanks for your time and trouble, Rian.

Please would SKP lookup Sarah Ann PAGE born abt 1843 in Camberwell, in the 1851 census?
Parents believed to be George b 1813 and Ann b 1822.

I have her in the 1861 at 14 George St, Camberwell Green, and in 1871 at 5 Alma Tce, Kennington, Lambeth.

She was a bit of a larrikin — married in Jun qtr 1860 as Sarah Ann CARD and had a 5 month baby girl by the following April. I can only presume her parents were not happy about the wedding! However she was back living in their house with her husband in the 1861 census. I do like her sense of humour though....
I wonder if that wedding was actually legal , as she gave a false name?

Thanks for the lookup, Rian.

This is (I believe) my gg grandfather Thomas Fennessy. The photo is in a mourning brooch with a lock of brown hair. The photographer was Hunter in Cork.
Can anyone give me an idea of the date?
Thanks in advance, Rian.
