New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: My Father- Victor David Ivor Whitney

Hi Lucy, when checking the passenger lists for my Dad's voyage to N.Z. I saw Ernest Whitney, but was on a different page, so didn't print it. The details I have are:- Departure from Southampton, England 17th June, 1927, on s.s.Tamaroa and it just says bound for Wellington, New Zealand.  My Dad was down as a 'butcher' but I have photos of him milking cows and one where he has been shooting rabbits. As far as I know, my Dad said he travelled on his own, but I will look into Ernest Whitney and see if I can find anything out,

Hi Lu, I did get the passenger lists of my Dad's voyages, but it just said bound for Wellington, no more info.  I have to try again to attach the photo, but its not the same as normal attaching, and I tried a couple of times, but couldn't do it, so I will have to look into it further.  I did email Wellington Library, and they said that as my Dad was only 18 when he went and nearly 21 when he came back (due to the illness of his Mother in London) he wouldn't be on any Electoral Rolls, so they couldn't help me.

Hi Mk2_Zephr, (Nice car by the way, I remember them well). There was no estrangement in the family. My Dad was Victor Whitney, his Father was Tom Ivor Whitney & his mother Margaret, married in 1907. My Dad was born in 1908 in Neath, South Wales and then they moved to Southwark in London, where my Grandfather was in the Metropolitan Police.  Thanks for your interest,

Di

Hi Arranroots, thanks for info. By the way, I know Neath is in Wales, was just a mistake!  All my family are from South Wales, My Grandfather was Tom Ivor Whitney, born 1885 Wales.  They moved to Southwark in London, are on 1911 census.  don't know of  the Ivor, Harold, Lucy and baby Edith. Tom Ivor had brother - Ralph Percy, who moved to Dorking, Surrey when married, and my Great Grandfather was David Whitney, also born Wales.  Have tried to attach a photo I have of my Dad and a New Zealand man, but not been able to do it.  Thought someone in N.Z. might recognise the man as their Father or Grandfather possibly.
Regards, Di

Hi Lucy2, thanks for info.  I got info about my Dad's voyage when he was 18 from 'Find my Past'. I saw also the Ernest Whitney, but don't think any relation, but quite a coincidence!  My Dad's family are all from South Wales.  What I would like to find out is the name of the family that my Dad stayed with and worked for, all I know it was a farm and between 1926 & 1929.  I have tried to attach a photo of him and another man who is from N.Z. but was not successful. I thought someone from New Zealand may recognise him as their Father or Grandfather possibly. (My Dad was born Neath, South Wales, 1908.  Father was Tom Ivor Whitney, born 1885, South Wales.

Hi Althea, how strange a man born in N.Z. with the same name as my Dad.  I am not aware of any relatives in Wellington.  My Dad's parents were Tom Ivor Whitney, born South Wales 1885 and Margaret Thomas born South Wales also. They married 1907 and my Dad was born Neath South Wales Nov.1908.  In 1911 census they had moved to Southwark, London, where Tom Ivor was in the Metropolitan Police.  My Father had a sister called Eunice, born 1906 out of Wedlock. I have gone back 1835 with my family tree and all were born in Wales.
