Lanarkshire / Glasgow Martyrs
« on: Tuesday 03 November 09 10:27 GMT (UK)  »
Peeps,  anything known on the two Franciscan Friars burned alive  near the east end of the Cathedral by Archbishop Dunbar after their trial in 1538? one was a Jerome Russell, who was the other? is there a monument to them? and is that why the nearby Martyrs Church was so called? I believe Dunbar afterwards, tried to blame the Dominicans, who kept the matches, which was why the Mob at the Reformation wreaked particular vengeance on the Blackfriars Monastery and on Dunbar's tomb in the Cathedral, although they spared the structure. Any trial details? ......Skoosh.

In 1637 he signed the protest against the introduction of the English Book of Common Prayer, addressed to Charles I.......Skoosh.
