A very comprehensive history of the Ironworkers & Steelmen of Scotland, covering 300 years from the charcoal bloomeries of the West Highlands, to the Carron Iron Company on the Forth & across the foundry towns of the Central Belt to Glasgow & south to Dalmellington in Ayrshire. The rise of new steel burghs of Lanarkshire takes up the second half of the book.
 A superb read with great pic's, Robert Duncan is the author, pub' by Birlinn, about £15 but half that on Amazon.

What must be one of the worlds first steamboat disasters took place on the Clyde off Greenock in 1825, lists of those killed etc' 62 out of 80 passengers perished. This was Comet II, Comet I, the worlds first seagoing steamer? was shipwrecked near Oban in 1820.
