Sometimes the lettering appears with a torch shone from the side.

Scotland / Re: Search of Sighthill Cemetery, Glasgow

Well Vicky, Glasgow apparently has more parks than Paris and millions of graves, the days when this was all kept well manicured are long gone. Eat or heat is most folks priority and letting the grass grow is more environmentally sound anyhow. My local park hasn't seen the mower yet, a farmer comes in from East Kilbride every back-end and cuts it gratis to feed the cattle.
I have gt grandparents, I assume, in Sighthill as they lived across the road, would be astonished if they have anything as grand as the Crum Stone ;D, but if you check the index box for Crum you will find that oor Rena is off the Glasgow Crum's and you might get some Crum's from her table!

Crackin pic of the Clan, I wouldn't worry about the McDonald spelling, it varied from time & place and who was writing it down ;D

Their religion might be a help in finding their McDonald origin?

Best Wishes,

Anent The Calton, The Scottish Genealogist mag' in the current issue, has part III of "Reminiscences of Calton!" which originally were published in the Scottish Canadian in 1893.
These wee tales of the families of the handloom weaving folk, a dying breed then, are excellent, possibly available from The Scottish Genealogy Society,  www.scotsgenealogy.com

Caithness / Re: *bster in Caithness

Shetland example, Vatster = Vatn Setter, Old Norse, the farm beside the lake, dating from the 8th & 9th centuries.
Caithness place-names also have a Gaelic element absent in Shetland.

From Norse "Setter!" older than a "Quoy!" farm name. "Saetr!" in Norway and in Orkney they now appear as "Ston!"

"Savagely hacked to death!" where do you get this stuff, showing off in front of this enormous English army he thought he would make a name for himself, he charged Bruce with his lance, Bruce split him with one blow!
What was he doing in Scotland anyhow? up for the golf ;D he certainly never made it back. Like most of the army.
His king had a worse fate and came to a bad end with the business end of a red hot poker.
For double dealing, carnage & brutality see the English Wars of the Roses!
