New Zealand Completed Requests / LEWIN Lancelot NZFA WW1
« on: Wednesday 11 November 20 12:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone I am looking for some help in locating the service record for Lancelot LEWIN who served in the NZFA in WW1.

I have a transcript of NZ Soldiers from FindMyPast showing his name as Launcelot Lewin, Gunner, Field Artillery, Reg No 2/1136.

I also have his name in the list of Commissioned Officers who served in the NZEF which shows L Lewin attested 1 March 1915, became 2nd Lt 21 Oct 2015 and Lieut. 14 August 1916. Struck off strength 10 Aug 1918.

This information accords with the details on his marriage certificate dated 28 June 1917.

I have searched Archway for his papers but with no luck.  I already have the papers from there realting to his father KCM Lewin and his brother CM Lewin.  Are there still records to be catalogued and digitised on Archway?

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Barbara

The baptism register image does not state the sex of the child.  Nor does it say son or daughter.

When searching the GRO register the entry comes up on a search for females.

Perhaps you should buy the birth certificate?

Have you investigated the wider families of the couple who adopted the child to find possible links with her and her mother?

Brilliant!  That ties in well.

Might be worth trying to trace Elizabeth and see if she married.  Maybe her daughter could be with her under Elizabeths' married name.  Also tracing Elizabeth back might reveal a connection with Frank or his wife Harriet.

This might be the birth reg.

WHITEHEAD, LOU        -
GRO Reference: 1894  M Quarter in PADDINGTON  Volume 01A  Page 46

This ties in with the Biddenden Parish Register entry for a Whitehead child, illegitimate, where the abode was London. This baptism is indexed as William Giles Whitehead but looks to me like Lu or Lee.

I have found the book "Old Title Deeds" by N W Alcock useful although my research has been for a later period.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: Rosier Family from Ramsbury Wiltshire Location

Hi

My husband is also a descendant of John Fowler and Mary Ann Rosier through their daughter Sarah who married William Pratt. Emma Pratt their daughter married Kindersley Camillo Montague Lewin who was my husband's great grandfather.

I have quite a lot of information on the family but am away from home at present so will contact you when I get back.  Maybe we have been in touch before?

How are you descended from John and Mary Ann?

Thanks for those links PB.  I shall have a look at them.

Timmies my sources are as follows:

All the Parish register details are from images of the PRs or the BTs.

The MIs are from The Mid Norfolk MI Transcripton Database and I have also checked them against a typewritten list of the MIs in Scoulton churchyard produced in 1971.

The Wills are photocopies from the Norfolk Record Office and are not to be copied without their permission.  If you look at the Norfolk RO catalogue you can search for the wills and you can order copies.

The will refs are:
William Norton ANW 1835 fo 102 no.84
James Norton NCC Whitty 509
John Norton ANF774 no 30 fo 30
Ann Norton ANF fo 430 1786 no 45

I found out the dates of William Fielding emigrating to Canada from Press Reports in the Norfolk News dated 9 March 1850.

Hope this covers everything.  Many images of PRs and BTs and some wills are available online on Ancestry, FindMyPast and family search.

I will be interested to hear what you have found from then Canadian censuses.

Have you found Amy on the 1939 register?  Was she a widow when she died?

Would be worth getting her marriage certificate to William Edwin I think.

Will let you know if I find anything.

Hi Chris

Always good to hear of another JOY researcher.

What dates do you have for William Edwin Joy please?  Did he marry in 1920?  Do you know his parents' names?

I may have some more information on this family.
