Thanks for the details.

I have found the headstone and it says William Kirk died 27/7/1888 in Crawford.   Helen died 16/12/1878

Helen was born in Eskdalemuir but I don't know where they married or when but their first child was born 12/3/1847 in Crawford.

Thanks to you both.

The industrial school in Green Street had children live in until 1894 when it became a day school.

With this information and my family member living in this seems to be the one.

Hi

I contacted Kirkhope Primary who advised me to contact the Archive Library.  I did this, they have came and advised that the school was on the Buccleuch Estate and to contact Drumlanrig Castle as they have the private files.
 They phoned to say that papers are held in Langholm and they will be in contact with me, that was approx 5 weeks ago and I have not heard.

I will contact them again and let you know the outcome.
