Thanks to all who have replied, it could be the size of his family, he was the sole wage earner and at that time had a wife & four children.

Ailsa  shipyard was there but I never heard him mention working in the Yard. There were no coal mines within the Troon area, other parts of Ayrshire yes, but not near Troon.

Barassie works were the only other engineering works, they repaired railway wagons and I assume all their materials would come and go by train

My late grandfather , who was a carter by occupation, born July 1877, never served in the first world war. Conscription was introduced in 1916 covering all males between 18 and 41. He died aged 79 and from what I remember didn't suffer from any disability . Why would he not have been called up ?

I may be wrong but I seem to recall that there was a bit of a controversy about the issuing of a license, before that pub opened. Mr Park was a Councillor at the time, but the man behind the scene was a publican called Frank Gunn

Technical Help / Re: Fuji Camera Problem

Thanks to all who have replied, but none of your suggestions were any help, thanks all the same. However I phoned Fuji's Help Line - I know I should have thought of that first- and the lad said that if I "FORMAT" the XD cards that would probably fix my fault, as the cards have never been formatted since 2007 I gave it a go and the problem seems to have been resolved

Technical Help / Fuji Camera Problem
« on: Wednesday 16 August 17 10:49 BST (UK)  »
I have a Fuji FinePix F30 camera which deletes from the memory card without being asked. Initially I thought I had pressed the Delete All function so I was very careful the next just to delete what I wished, sure enough it deleted some other pictures as well. I put it aside and used the wife's camera instead. When I went back to the Fuji it had deleted everything without being asked.

I bought a new XD card and shot some more pictures but with the same result, it made no difference. I also made sure the battery on each occasion was fully charged.

Any clues as to how this can be overcome?

OK, thanks to all who have replied, I'll browse the web sites which you have suggested
