New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Lookup please
« on: Tuesday 09 February 21 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Going back to your original query.
If you have access to ancestry there are some family trees on there which include details of Arthur and Margaret's sons. I believe both their sons have passed away. Douglas William Johnson in 2005 and Robert Thomas Johnson 16/07/2010.
A printout of these deaths would confirm they are definitely their sons to avoid any mixups. A search on Find a Grave will bring up Douglas William Johnson in the Kelvin Grove Cemetery. Searching on Napier's cemetery databases for Robert Thomas Johnson will have details in the Western Hills Cemetery along with his wife. Photo of headstone

Hi Cathy
You can download software that will allow you to scan album pages and crop images etc. If you have a Mac, the sniptag programme is excellent. I use scanspeeder and have found it really good. Cost is quite good. I don't have the website details but if you google there are a number of programmes you can download. Some allow a trial so it is worth looking at.

Hi Alan

Thank you so much for your efforts. It was a pity nothing was found. For anyone looking, the register entries are well worth checking out as they would definitely add to your family history. I have been delving into various nursing records but I think some of the searches will have to wait until I am home in NZ. Who knows when!!!!!

Many thanks
Happy New Year

Hi Alan

Thanks so much for your efforts. I will PM my email address.
The registers sound amazing. I had been told about them.  It would be great if you ever have the chance to look again but it is not the end of the world if you don't have time. We had hoped to come home to NZ in February but now off the cards for probably at least a year. These records were on my list to look at. Frederick and Elizabeth were my grandparents and met at Carrington.

World War Two / Re: Did my great grandfathers serve?

Hi

I forgot to add I had relatives who were on the 1939 Register but they did join up later and serve in WW2. The only way I could initially find out was asking all the distant relatives and if they knew what services they were in. I then applied for their service records from the MOD. It is a really easy process.

Armed Forces / Re: Navy records

Hi

I would recommend posting some of the records page by page as the help you will get is amazing.  I did this back in about May 2017. I was a complete novice and was researching several members of my family in the Navy. I started by just scanning the front page of a service record and attaching it here.

Hi

John Pretoria Barry did served in WW1 and part of WW2. If you have access to Ancestry there are quite a few public family trees on there. One of them has included his service record up until he was pensioned off in June 1940. Within the military records on this site is his earlier military service record, record of WW1 medals and long service medal which he received in mid 1933.  His service number up until 1928 was J69154 and after he transferred in 1929 it was changed to M39660. Hope this helps a bit.
