There is correspondence in Richard's military record about birth records and baptismal records for his children.

Richard was born 29 Sep 1902.  They had to supply a baptism certificate for him separately from the others but it is unclear whether those others were birth or baptism certs.

The marriage and death were both in the registration district of Southampton.

HEATH, LUCY  EMMA
No mother's maiden surname
GRO Reference: 1869  J Quarter in SOUTH STONEHAM  Volume 02C  Page 53

Fanny HEATH and Lucy are with Fanny's father in South Stoneham in 1871.  I can't see any registered NORTHAM/HEATH births after 1877.

Nothing on the certificate suggests that a Mr WHITE is James' father.  The child is not assigned a surname on the certificate and Mary Jane is simply stating the name she was known by when she registered the birth.

James NORTHAM, ship's cook, is with wife Fanny (29) and daughter Lucy (11) in Southampton in 1881.  It looks like Fanny died in 1890.  He is a bit older, his age is also given as 29.

There is a possible marriage in 1877 with James NORTHAM and Fanny HEATH on the same page which would make it unlikely that Lucy was his daughter.

2) locate a widow with the surname of Northam in the CI in 1901 or 1911 (as he was drowned in a ship sinking in 1899)?

He was a widower in 1891.

No, I don't know anything  ;D   I am used to Queensland where there are a lot of records relating to immigrants other than passenger lists.  On a hunch I searched the NZ archives for the words - immigration scheme.

Son Married Mary Connor after emigrating to Barrow in Furness

Is it Felix born 1857 or his son that married Mary CONNOR.  I can't see a marriage between a Mary CONNOR and anyone named McKERNAN or variations in Barrow, only the following...

Marriages Dec qtr  1882

Names all on the same page:

CARROLL Elizabeth
COGHLAN Annie
McKARNAN Felix
ROCHE Thomas Patrick

Barrow F.    8e   1300

I'm hoping there might be a clue as to the mother's maiden name. Would she have been an Evans? It appears that she was born in Cork around 1797 so having a maiden name to follow up would be a great help.

In 1861 Ann said she was born at Castlemartyr in Cork.  Unfortunately those registers have been lost.

Notes: Three volumes of parish registers comprising baptisms 1768-1876, marriages 1769-
1845, and burials 1772-1877, were destroyed in the fire at the Public Record Office
of Ireland during the civil war in 1922

Just as a matter of interest, there is an enlistment record for a John EVANS who was born c1800 at Castlemartyr.

Name         John EVANS
Age                 17
Birth Place      Castlemartyr, Cork
Military Date   29 Oct. 1817
Unit                  97th Foot Soldiers
