Trying to trace a French ancestor
« on: Tuesday 24 August 04 18:41 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate my French ancestors Gustave Vacher born Tours 1849 son of Jacques Vacher.  He moved to Durham ,married Annie Fenton and  i assume hestayed in the UK until death.  He had at least 4 children and finally settled in South Shields.  Any help or guidance for finding a lead in France would be gratefully recieved.

Do you know if he was a Catholic or French Protestant?  If Protestant, the Huguenot Society might have something on him.

Thanks for replying.  He was married in 1871 In Croxdale Church, Durham.  I don't think that this is a Catholic Church and none of his descendents would appear to be Catholic.  What is the best link for the Huguenot Society?

Best wishes

Bob,

Thanks very much for replying - I have a copy of the wedding certificaste and the younger Vacher died of dysentery.  I have looked at the Huguenot Society page but no joy.  I have put a message on the Vacher name forum and will hope for the best.

Thanks again and best wishes

If you are able to get the Society of Genealogists, I understand that the Anglo French FHS deposited some of it's material there before they folded.

Julie

Sorry to hear the Anglo-French FHS folded.  What a shame.   :(
