USA Research
« on: Wednesday 25 August 04 09:41 BST (UK) »
I joined Ancestry to try and track down an Uncle of my husbands, I found his date of death and his scial security number but when we tried to buy copies of the certificates the relationship to my husband wasn't close enough. I contacted Ancestry but they haven't replied. I need the info as he was born in France and we need to know where, place of birth will hopefully be on the Social security application. So we are stuck as there is no one left who can tell us anything. Any suggestions?

When was uncle born, and when did he die, what was his name, and whereabouts did he live?.
He might appear on the census, which could possibly give you a pointer. USA censuses are online up to 1930.

Hi Pauline,
His name was Charles Villaret and we are 99% sure he was born in France c1912 he died in 1966. I actually met his wife Kitty and his younger son Paul in the late sixties so I am certain of the death info on Ancestry being his.

Hi Kris,

You have the same information I found, his mother was Sophie Legay her name was mis-spelt quite often on transcriptions.
We know for sure that Sophie came to the UK in September 1916 as a piece of paper survives with an official stamp. I have searched 1837 and found the births of the five children that were born in England. We have a definite for Henri who was born in St Etienne in France 1915, Charles was the eldest which is why we assumed he had been born in France, I just need to fill in the blanks.
