Hi Tigerbelle,
Have you tried the unassisted immigration site www.proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?
This is the victorian website for looking up family coming into australia.  If you have trouble with this address try Google.  If you are ever looking for New South Wales for assisted immigration it is on the State Records of New South Wales website.
 ;)

The Victorian assisted and unassisted are very comprehensive and if your ship came into Victoria in 1855 , I would be surprised if it wasn't on one of those lists. Perhaps you could try spelling options and/or wildcards. It is also possible that the family is simply identified by Mr and Mrs - the children may only be "child". If you would like some help searching, detail the names and ages (if known).

Hi Chris,
Another reason these shipping records can be deceptive is that ages of passengers are wildly inaccurate .  I say this from experience where I knew the birth dates of the ancestors and found them listed with up to 10 years wrong.
It is hard to know whose 'fault' this was - the recorder or the recordee.
There was an advantage in seeming younger if you came on the bounty system as it made you more eligible.  However, mistakes are evident on both assisted and unassisted schemes.
Don't be too influenced by age, just look for arrival date, same ship, group of 4.
Have you any idea at all where in Vic. they may have settled?

On the Victorian Shipping List

Is the month and year, the departure or arrival date?
