Where in the world are you Bernard ?

The National Archive at Kew have Royal Artillery Records for that period but you have to go and do the search yourself.

Get this book from your Library - Tracing your Ancestors in the PRO by Amanda Bevan - whole chapter on Military Records and how to search.

Hubbies G Grandpa joined the RA in 1860, discharged in 1884, we found his Attestation papers and Military Record at Kew.  Some give lots of info especially if your man was in the Army for a while, others very little, it's a bit hit and miss but well worth the effort.

Good luck
