BILSBORROW/BILSBOROUGH/BILSBURY Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 01 November 05 19:17 GMT (UK) »
I'd be pleased to hear from anyone researching the above names even if not in Liverpool.

I am currently trying to track down a marriage of John Bilsborrow to Jane sometime around 1816.

They had a daughter Isabella b 1818 and a son Robert b 1829 but haven't found any other siblings yet.

Hi!

I just wondered if this might be the marriage you are looking for:

In the parish of St Anne's, Richmond on 15th May 1814 by Banns
John Bilsbarrow of the parish of Liverpool - Occupation: Weaver
to Jane Barnes of the parish of Liverpool - A spinster.

I also came across this entry for a William Bilsborough, who might
be another of their children:

Parish:  St. Anne, Richmond
Born: 4th June 1825    Bapt: 16th Oct 1825
Father: John    Occupation: Labourer    Mother: Jane
Address: Sawney Pope Street

Hope it helps!

Sparey - Wilts
Cummins - Wilts
Attwood - Glos (Ashchurch area)
Kent - Berks/Warks/Ceylon
Spain - Devon/Dorset/Derbys
Scown - Cornwall/Devon/East Riding of Yorks

thanks for those I'll add them to my list.  My John would have been born around 1800 but I don't know if he was born in Liverpool. I know he had 2 children in Liverpool with 11 yrs between them (so there must have been others but I haven't foudn them yet) and I know there were some bilsborrows (in their various spellings) around before so the more information I have, the better picture I can build up and hopefully one day, I'll find him

I have my Bilsborough/Bilsborrow line in Lancashire ( Chipping, Thornley Longridge Preston), no trace of Liverpool though, back to 1720, if it is of interest?

Hello, quite an old thread this, but I'll give it a try.

I can't help directly with the original query, but my wife's ancestry includes plenty of BILSBARROWs (various spellings) from Liverpool. Earliest one we have is William BILSBARROW born abt. 1780, married Mary Ann HARRIS 22 Jan 1804 at Christ Church, Hunter Street, Liverpool. 8 children that we know of, my wife being descended from Thomas, bapt. 1 Nov 1818 in Saint James, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

Most of the males were plumbers or painters, There was something of a family penchant for naming daughters Isabella (maybe they liked tongue-twisters?).

Hello Tony. I hadn't realised that was my first post. I registered a few years ago but obviously didn't follow it up until now.

It seems quite likely that all BILSBARROWs would ultimately have originated from the village of that name near Preston, but still haven't linked our Liverpool ones back there yet.

Interestingly I haven't yet found a link for my Tree to Bilsborrow Nr Garstang. We seem to be from Longridge, Thornley with Wheatley, Chipping and Longridge......not even close to Liverpool! :)

There are as you say lots of Bilsborrows in the Bilsborrow area. Spellings vary the village has also been called Bilsborough
