Bishops and Bunnys
« on: Wednesday 02 November 05 09:36 GMT (UK) »
My great-grandmother was Kate Bunny, born Penryn. My grandmother (her daughter) had a lady living with her who was born Tabitha Bishop in Perranarworthal.  Tabitha aged 12 appears in the 1871 census living at Tullamorr with her mother, Priscilla (nee Sampson) and brother John.
The Bishops and the Bunnys are related, but how?  Does anyone know any more?

Hi Diane,

I've looked at the family of Tabitha Bishop, do you want details?

Do you have any more details about Kate Bunny? date of birth? census info? Was Bunny her maiden name?

Regards   Sue

I would love details, Sue.
Kate Bunny was her maiden name, born in Penryn and registered at Falmouth, she married Frederick John Williams in August 1886 in London. Her father was William Bunny, a gateman, and she was listed as living in Lamb Building in Temple.  I dont know when she came to London, but Kate and Frederick had 2 daughters, one of whom was my grandmother.
We know Tabitha lived with the family in the 1940s, everyone called her Mrs.  presumably because the kids couldnt say Tresidder.  She died about 1944.
Anything you can add would be very welcome.  How do you come to be looking at Tabitha Bishop?  How does she fit in your line?
Thanks
Diane

Hi Diane,

I have now also traced your Bunny family on the census returns from 1841-1881, also Kate on the 1891. Do you need this info? If so I will post it for you.

Anyway it looks as if the link between Kate and Tabitha might be in Perranarworthal.
Tabitha and her parents lived and were born in Perranarworthal.
Kate's mother was also born in Perranarworthal.

Hi again Diane,

Just another thought for you to ponder. Do you know the maiden name of Kate's mother?

the reason I ask is because she seems to fit in age with the Elizabeth A Bishop in the 1851 census. This would make Tabitha Kate's aunt.

Hope you can follow this bit of thinking, let me know what you think.

Sue

Hi Sue,
I follow the thinking, but I dont know Kate's mother's maiden name.  That makes sense though.  Nanna took in Tabitha Bishop when she already had 5 children in a small 3 bedroom house and never enough money, so there had to be some strong connection between them.  I can look into Kate's mother's name.
Tabitha's mother, Priscilla was a Sampson before married, so that explains one of the boys being William Sampson.
Thank you so much.
