Many thanks, at last I can do something and hopefully take another step and who knows where it may lead.Would you happen to know what sort of info is on the marriage certificate, I know in England it's just the fathers where in Scotland it's a lot more.

Each state is different. See if there is a local email and ask.  In NY, both parents are on the certificate, occupations, place of birth and age/birth date.
