I believe my partner remembers Sissy, I think she worked in the flower shop in Tonypandy?

His grandfather was Sissy's brother. George Henry Ashman, he remembers George so may recognise him in a picture. Sadly my partner's mother (George's daughter) died just a year ago, she may have been able to name more of the siblings. Her brother is still alive, but he was 10 years younger than her. I'm happy to ask him if you want to share the group photograph though.

Since my previous post, I've worked out that my Grandfather was William John, ( not John ) since he died in 1964 at the age of 71 and therefore born in 1893. John was born in March 1898. As I said he was always known as Jack hence the confusion.

John and Emily haven't made it easy their decendants have they 

The Photo is of the five brothers at least I assume it is. My Grandfather  William is seated front row on the left. judging by the uniform, the photo dates from the 1914/18 War

My apologies, it's not my own family tree so made an error.

John and Emily's eldest child was George Henry, he was the father of my partner's Grandfather William George Ashman.

So it was his Great Grandfather who was the brother of your grandfather.

I'll ask his uncle if he remembers his grandfather i.e. your great uncle George Henry and show him the photograph. As George was the eldest I presume he's the one in the middle.

Will let you know when he replies to me.

This is Aunty Sissy, in later life and as I remember her. I assume she was christened Sarah Ann and that Sissy was a nickname. I just wish I had asked that sort of question when they were alive.

My partner's uncle didn't know his grandfather as he died in 1942. He knew his name was George Henry and that he'd been bombed by mustard gas in the trenches of WWI. He was then discharged from the army. He died of lung complications when about 52.

He was an ambulance driver during the war so the red cross insignia on his uniform fits in with what is known about him.

Philip remembers the lady in the photograph, but he knew her as Agnes May, known affectionately as Bopa Agnes.

He said she always seemed old, and was brought to various family parties with her equally elderly husband Charlie. .

He said that his mother's sister Sarah Ann (named after her Auntie Sarah Ann the sister of the boys in the photo) was called Sis by his mother and then Auntie Sis by her children, my partner's uncle (who I'm getting the info from, and his mother who has now died). Sis was apparently short for sister.

Hope that makes sense!

Here's a photo I know little about, except that Sissy, as a young woman, is standing on the left of the group. A family wedding or a friends wedding? Hard to say, but the men do look related to me. same shape face and nose.
