1861 census:
Primitive Chapel yard, Stotfold

John Carter head married 35 farm lab
Ruth Carter wife 34 domestic
Martha dau 14 straw plaiter
Thos son 13 farm lab
Isacc son 11 farm lab
Noah son 8 farm lab
Elious son 6 scholar
Rosa dau 3 scholar
Phebe dau 1
All born at Stotfold Beds

The Isacc aged 11 in 1861 looks promising.

The family was still in Stotfold at the 1871 census, with the exception of the 3 eldest children, although Thomas was married and still in the village. Unfortunately I can't trace Isaac in 1871 at all- a search for Carters born in Stotfold/Beds failed to find him.

However he appears (or at least I assume it's him!) in 1881 on  the LDS site as Isaac J Carter age 30 born Stotfold  living in West Ham with wife Fanny aged 24 born at March Cambs with four children aged 6, 5, 2 and 5 mths. The first two were born at Benwick so I'm pretty confident it's the family you're looking for.

The problem seems to be that he's Isaac J(ohn?) not John Isaac!

Let me know if you need anything further - particularly fuller details of the 1871 census for the Stotfold family.
