Hi

I know this is a very weak link, but I have a connection to John Golland Henson!

It goes like this!

John Golland Henson m Mary Ann Stanton

child: John H Y Henson b 1869 m Sarah Gleadell b 1863

Sarah Gleadell nee Nicholson daughter of

William Gleadell b 1832 and Sarah Nicholson b 1836 (my gt gt grandmothers sister) nee Golland!

I havent gone back on the John Golland Henson side, but looks like his mother was perhaps a Golland and perhaps sister to Sarah Golland b 1808.

Phew!

thanks sue, maybe I can help you there as i have found out quite a lot about the HENSON family or HEUSON as it is on the 1881 census in Chesterfield.

They had 8 chn in all, 5 sons and 2 daughters.

They all lived at the New square Star hotel in Chesterfield.

Included in the household were others as well as john gollands henson's neice, Sarah anne Stanton (my gt  grandmother on my dad's side)who married Edwin dickenson in 1882.

John golland henson was a signature witness at their wedding.

I wonder if I can find the link to Jane Henson, Sarah's mother? Both surnames seem to be intertwined somehow! I will have to keep digging and thinking.

Hope this helps,

Hi Jenny,

Just started looking into my family history and have found a link to John Golland Henson who is my Great Grandfather on my fathers side (Derek Henson son of Francis Henson) I think the JG that we are talking about is the same one?

Gerrard.

Hi Gerrard, good to hear you've joined the family researchers! You will find that at times it is rewarding and other times perplexing.Since posting info about my family in 2002-6, I've since learned that Thomas Stanton married twice, after his first wife -Hannah Gibbons died after childbirth as was quite common in those days. The child was then brought up by the grandparents, outside Chesterfield. He then went on to marry Jane Blanksby from Chesterfield in1857. She was the mother of Sarah Ann Stanton, who was niece to John Golland Henson-hence the connection on the marriage cert.
I also have the marr.cert of JGH and MA Stanton. Other names on the cert are:Sam Stanton,Walter Stanton and Harriette Youden. The date is 31st July,1867 at the parish church in Chesterfield. Father-John Henson-Farmer, Samuel Stanton- Law Clerk. Mary Ann Stanton and Thomas were siblings.
Hope this helps.
Regards Jenny.

Hi there

Have a look at the familysearch.org site (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html ) There are 3 pages of Hensons baptised in Chesterfield and some you have already mentiond e.g. John & Hannah's children, lots of Stantons too. Typical though I can't see a Chesterfield baptism for Jane Henson but at least there are quite a few others for you.

My fathers Great Grandfather John Golland Henson  (1841 – 1902 ) appears in a photo wearing his full Masonic regalia. He had a daughter Maude Henson (his Mothers Aunt ) owned and lived at Brampton Manor, whilst it obviously was still a private dwelling. The hensons had a butchers shop on st marys gate (no 44) where my father's mother lived once

Whilst I realise this thread is near 13 years old......My father's mother Cissy Hollis married to Wilfred, lived with her Father George Arthur Henson in the Hensons butchers shop, living at the shop were father, mother 2 sons and 4 daughters, I believe the youngest of the sons George (My fathers uncle) went to Australia never to return to the UK. I know of one daughter Margaret now deceased.
