I thought I'd chip in too, even though it's an old thread. I'm tracing an elderly friend's family, and she  is a great great granddaughter of THOMAS CROSS, naturalist, born in Plealey, about 1812, through his son John, a carpenter/joiner.  MortimerCat may find it useful to know that his wife Mary and children Thomas and John were born not in Llandudno, but Llandrinio, Montgomeryshire. John's birth is registered in 1840 there (Llanfyllin Reg.Distr.) I hope my friend will get the certificate soon. In the 1841 census Mary and the boys may be in St Julian parish in Shrewsbury, with husband/father Thomas away. (Not provable it's them due to the thin info in the 1841 census.) Their son John settled in Birmingham and raised a family there, naming Thomas Cross, naturalist, as his father on marriage to Elizabeth Roberts in 1863. Mary lives with them at least until 1881. I have found all censuses to then if interested. If you're on Ancestry my username rosibowyer should lead to the details on my BettyRoy tree.
