1851 Cross Siblings
« on: Wednesday 09 November 05 14:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for three Cross siblings all born in Frodesley,Shropshire, parents James and Elizabeth. Have nothing concrete with deaths or marriages but have a full history for a further brother. Thought I'd ask for a look-up based on d.o.b. and place of birth rather than put down a lot of supposition. Can say,however,that I've seen Frodesley spelled Tradgsley and Frazley later;

Thomas Cross b.1815
Mary Ann Cross b.1819
Eliza Cross b.1811

Many thanks.

Hi,

The John Cross b.1810 should be the father of the others (together with wife Ann) and is the brother of those I posted for. Having said that I haven't come across the John b.1843 so his details would be great. Thanks for looking.

See you, Lee

Hi,

The Plealey one looks interesting - that's about 5 miles from Frodesley? The only other info I have would be Thomas's father and mother - James Cross b.1781 and Elizabeth b.1782 Frodesley but by '51 they'd be 70+.

Thanks for looking, see you, Lee.

Hi Leeric,
I cannot find your three original ancestors from Frodesley, I did find these,
Frodesely records,
30/july/1809, John,s,of,           James,& Elizebath Cross, bap,
23/oct/1811, Eliza,d,of                 "            "             "        "
If you want a lookup, pre 1820 (excluding R/C) these records are not on my disc, please feel free,
(I cant read half of these answers, so you may already have your answer)
Best, regards,
Pete.

I appreciate this thread is over 10 years old, but as Thomas Cross, naturalist, is my 3x great grandfather I had to say something! Unfortunately, apart from this one census record and him being referred to as a "bird stuffer" on his sons marriage certificate (Thomas, my 2x great grandfather), this is all I know about him. I have not been able to trace him on the 1841 census, although I have his wife Mary & son.

There was another naturalist, born in Shrewsbury around the same time, the slightly better known Charles Darwin. I would love to find a connection, but the more I look, the less likely it becomes.
