A very distant ancestor, one of the grandsons of my 14 x g.grandfather (making him my 1st cousin 14 times removed!!) was famous in his day.  He was Dean of St Paul's Cathedral and founded St Paul's College school for boys at the cathedral which is still in existence.  He was buried in St Paul's Cathedral and there is a stone there bearing his name.

His father was also famous (he is my 13 x g.uncle).  He was knighted and  Lord Mayor of London on two occasions.  He is buried in a large tomb in St Dunstan's Church, Stepney.

Unfortunately, my direct ancestor was only a sheep farmer.   ::)

One of my distant granfathers was married in Stoke-by-Nayland in Suffolk and in the same week as John Constable, the artist. I later found that his son married a girl named Constable. Who knows?

Also my father was named Lewis after a cousin, Lewis McGregor who was the Australian ambassador to the League of Nations in WW2. He later became US ambassador to Barbados. My nephew is also named Lewis. I read Lewis McGregor's autobiography a few years ago - it was better than a sleeping pill.

Not really famous, but my paternal grandfather was vicar of Malmesbury Abbey, Wilts for 19 years, and we have photos of him shaking hands with Queen Mary.

My maternal ggrandfather was the top breeder of shire horses.

After my paternal grandmother died, my mother asked me if she had ever told me that I am supposed to be descended from Robert the Bruce. This has been dormant in the back of my memory for nearly 30 years, and is the main reason why I now have my own computer, so that I can try and prove the link. I have a long long way to go, as I have not actually started my tree on my father's side yet!

I may also be due to our Cornwell lines. But as I said, I found out that I am related to the Kray Twins. Arggghhhhhhh. I am their 5th cousins twice removed.

I am not sure. I didn't know she was. I know Zoe Wanamaker is. I am related to them through their mothers mother Mary Ann Houghton, daughter of Thomas Pitt Houghton.

No Patsys Father was a "business" associate of them, and Reggie was Godfather to her brother,

re Zoe Wanamaker pretty sure there is no family connection, (maybe wrong)
her father was from the Ukraine, and Mother was Canadian, pretty sure her only connection to the East End is when they left the USA and settled here, i followed her story pretty closely as Her Fathers family came from the same village in the Ukraine as my Grandad so until i found records it was easier to track someone famous from the same place.
