There were a number of Stone farmers

I have already ascertained that Charlotte Stone had Henry James Stone, my great grandfather out of wedlock. She subsequently married John Chilton who adopted Henry James into the Chilton family name. Records suggest John died in Eckington , Derbyshire or Yorkshire, in December 1899 at the age of 72. The big question appears  to be , "what happened to Charlote?" Henry James appeared in 1871census in Tattenhall, Cheshire.

Wow that's a blast from the past. At the time I was helping an acquaintance out with their research & have actually accumulated quite a lot of info on Henry James Stone/Chilton which I still have on my computer so I have e-mailed said person in the hope that they come back to me. Unfortunately I haven't spoken with them in quite a long time so don't know what the situation is but I will let you know if I hear anything.

In the meantime to answer your question on what happened to Charlotte Chilton, she married again after John died . Her marriage was Dec qtr 1901 Sheffield reg to William Batty, presumably Handsworth York's as that is where she is in 1901 & 1911. Charlotte Batty died Dec qtr 1911 aged 80 Sheffield reg.

We seem to have confused you, sorry about that. I noticed Ray has given the wrong name on his post, it should be John not George. Whoops.

Charlotte only married twice, once to John Chilton as you already know & then William Batty (Free BMD) Dec qtr 1901 Sheffield 9c 917. William died between 1901 & 1911, there are 2 possible records on Free BMD, either 1902 or 1908 depending on his age. Charlotte died Dec qtr 1911 Sheffield 9c 628. She is on the last census under the name of Charlotte Batty.
