ooops sent the above message before checking other messages, sorry for any confusion. Ive been through the medal cards but how do you know if you've got the right person? Ive purchased a medal card  before thinking it was my Thomas but they dont say where the person is from. WHat are the chances of finding his service record? Bearing in mind her served prior as well as during the war would his record have survived? If not, woulg the Cheshire Reg hold any archives?

Thank you all for your kind help and Im sorry if Ive bombarded you with questions!

I don't think it is him. I have looked for loads of medal cards and i have never yet had one that didn't have the middle initial or name if there was one, same for the CWGC.

It is just the best possibility so far.

Found Herbert in 1901 with his dad but no Thomas there.

Checked his brothers houses also(the ones i can find) and not there, may well be abroad, best thing to do would be to find out if his regiment served abroad in 1901 and that would be where he was.

wow Annie! Thankyou! How did you find that out? Im going to write or emal the Cheshire Reg and see if I can locate him abroad, this is so exciting! I suppose with him being a sergeant he must have been in the army for some time prior to 1907 (thats when his first child was born and Thomas appears on the cert as a sergeant in the Cheshire Reg). I will keep you informed on my progress! Thanks all!
