Mortimers from Laois
« on: Wednesday 23 November 05 12:31 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any information on the Mortimer Family who were farmers in Laois. I have Griffiths data for Michael Mortimer in Ardlea. Michael was the father of Anthony Mortimer who was born abt 1840 and farmed land in Ballyroan in the 1870's-1880's. Anthony Mortimer married Margaret Wildermoth in Cappinrush RC parish in 1863. I have various bits of Griffiths data on this area of Laois and on the Mortimer family from parish registers in Cappinrush and Ballyroan. Common family names were Finton, Thomas, Michael, Anthony, Margaret. The Mortimers moved to Salford abt 1880.
Gahan & Heally in Dublin & Wicklow. Bruen & Dunne in Dublin. Mortimer in Laois. Wildermoth in Laois & Tipperary. Tighe emigrated to Vauxhall, Liverpool. Irish Rodgers emigrated to Vauxhall, Liverpool.

mossy,

Thanks for the info. Is this out of the civil register or is it off the www?

My line was Thomas born in Ballyroan in 1876.

Do you have any interest in Mortimers, Wildermoths or this area of Laois?

Thanks,

Stuart
