1841 census for NEWBERRY / TOMLIN
« on: Saturday 26 November 05 21:19 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Sarah NEWBERRY (born c1816 Hitchin),
her daughter Maria NEWBERRY or TOMLIN (born April 1840 Holwell) and
Thomas TOMLIN.

Thomas TOMLIN, a tailor, is listed as Maria's father on her birth certificate, but a William TOMLIN, also a tailor, is staying with Sarah NEWBERRY in 1851, and is listed as Maria's father when she married in 1860.

Is there a William TOMLIN (born c1811 Wellingborough Northants)?

They are likely to be in Hitchin or adjoining villages.

Thanks a lot
Sylphide

Welcome sylphide :)

I hope that you will visit us often and make lots of progress with your research.

Sadly the 1841 census for Hertfordshire is not yet indexed and to search Hitchin and the surrounding villages could be a long job!

However, there are many kind souls here on RootsChat, so you may get lucky, but please do not be disappointed if you have to wait a while for this.

Best Wishes
Rick  :)

I have Sarah Newberry with these two men also and haven't solved their relationship either. I believe Sarah died before the 1871 census. Her parents were Thomas Newberry and Mary Oakley.

Sarah has these children
Maria Tomlin Newberry b.15 Apr 1840 in Holwell - father Thomas Tomlin
John Tomlin Newberry b.1844 - father unknown
James Tomlin b.1852 - father William Tomlin
Elizabeth Mary Tomlin b.1858 - father William Tomlin (he died in 2Q 1884)

George Newberry who appears in the 1851 census as a son of Sarah is infact her nephew (son of her sister Mary Newberry who is living with her at the time) William Tomlin is Sarah's lodger!

Sorry I can't offer any more help  :)

Maria Newberry, aged 1 is living with her grandmother and other aunts and uncles in the 1841 census at Cadwell, Holwell, Beds.  Her mother is NOT there.

I know this is a very old thread, but I've just come across it while googling for John Tomlin Newberry:

Maria Newberry, aged 1 is living with her grandmother and other aunts and uncles in the 1841 census at Cadwell, Holwell, Beds.  Her mother is NOT there.
  :)

Maria's mother, Sarah Newberry 24 not born in Beds, along with Sarah's mother and other siblings/half siblings, IS part of the household!
