Joseph DAWSON Gateshead
« on: Sunday 27 November 05 10:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for Joseph Dawson, father George Dawson. In November 1889 he married Sarah Tinney, father John Tinney. Both Joseph and Sarah were living in Moss Close and were married in Pelton Parish Church.

Can someone please search the census's for me? I have found Joseph and Sarah in the 1901 census.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,

The closest census is 1881, free to search at www.familysearch.org or www.ancestry.co.uk

Have you already had a look?

If you can't find him there, please post the 1901 details including birth year and birth place so that somebody can try and find him.

Hi Karen,

I can't see Joseph at first sight but I see these in 1891:
RG12/4125 42 19
Durham Lamesley, Eighton Banks

Ann Tomley, head, wid, 30, b. Ireland
Joseph, son, s, 20, General Labourer, b. Durham Washington
John, son, s, 18, Coal miner, b. Durham Felling
Catherine, dau, (16?), b. Wandley
Sarah Dawson, dau, mar, 2(can't read 2nd digit), b. Sunderland
Joseph Dawson, grandson, 2, b. Sheriff Hill
Ann Dawson, granddau, (15 days?), b. Lamsley

William Stephenson, lodger, wid, 56, Gal labourer, b. Sherburn Hill

I know this is not what you were asking for but it might interest you.

Sorry, I can't see him on any other census.

Hope somebody else will be able to help.

Tanja,

That does interest me! I have been told that most of the Dawsons lived or were born in Sheriff Hill and it is also the believe that Sarah Tinney may have been Irish.

The census details in 1891 look a bit strange. Ann is 30 and the head and then their is a son 20?

Thanks for the info.

:-[ Karen, I'm really sorry, this was a typo. Ann's age is supposed to read 60. The name does look like Tomley to me. I see they are called Tomney in 1881.

Ah that makes more sense. I think this is the right family. I'm wondering were Joseph is in this though...

Thanks Karen :)

Hi Tanja,

Do you have the details from 1881? I'm trying to find the correct surname for Sarah I have seen it as Tinney Tirney and also as Timothy.... now Tomley and Tomney.

Thanks Karen  ;D
