I thought I wouldn't find them in 1871 but here they are:
RG10/4993 80 37
Washington, Durham

The handwriting is a nightmare - here's my go at it:
New (?) Cottages
Joseph Tomlin, head, 36, Coal miner, b. Ireland
Ann, wife, 34, b. do.
Mary (Marg?), dau, 15, b. Sunderland
Wm, son, 12, Coal miner, b. do.
Mary A, dau, 10, b. do.
Sarah, dau, 3, b. do.
Joseph, son, 6ms, b. Washington

Oh no!

I don't think this is them. On Sarah and Joseph's wedding certificate it has her father as John and Joseph's as George.

All your hard work for nothing, and I was sure we were on the right track  :(

It's so frustrating!

Thanks,
karen

WAIT FOR IT!!

I said the handwriting isn't clear, right?

I went back to the image. The A from Ann made it look like there was a 'p' in the previous line but, having a 10th look at it, I'd go for John after all.

Hey.  I know this is an old thread but its perked my interest!

My great grandma is elizabeth dawson (daughter of Joseph and Sarah, of Sheriff Hill)

I've seen that Kaz hasn't been online for over 12 years however if anyone else is related to Elizabeth, Joseph and sarah, lets chat!
