HI Phyl, I dont have any information to add, but when i was looking for family in Braughing (just up the road in the other direction) I emailed the vicar who put me on to the local history society, and someone kindly checked the burial register at the church.  They found some people i didnt know were buried there, and some christenings, put quite a few pieces in the puzzle.
just a suggestion, i know how frustrating it can be

Phyl, if no joy in Much Hadham, think about Little Hadham (st cecilia's) and there is a Hadham Ford, but no church there

Hi Phyl,

I searched the Much Hadham PRs at HALS for burial entries for Selina and James on the dates you gave in your posting but with no success.   However, if you can give details of any other members of the family, I will gladly extend my search when I next visit HALS.

That was exceedingly kind of you , Peter, and I would appreciate your checking next time for others. Here are all the events that allegedly happened in Much Hadham:

TAYLOR, James d 1767 age about 30
TAYLOR, Elizabeth d 1822 probably in her early 80's

their children:
TAYLOR, James Nathaniel bap Jun 6 1760, buried early May 1838 (d Apr 30 in Marylebone) (m abt 1783 Henrietta Gordon Norcott)
TAYLOR Eliza bap 11 May 1761 (m R. Nore)
TAYLOR Peter bap 1 Jun 1762
TAYLOR Katherine bap 8 Aug 1763
TAYLOR Charlotte 16 Sept 1764 (m G Jones)

James Nathaniel's wife and children:
TAYLOR, Henrietta (Gordon) d 1827 age about 70
TAYLOR James Gordon bap 21 Oct 1784 (d 25 Jul 1797 Battle of Tenerife)
TAYLOR, Robert Edward b and d abt 1785/6 infant
TAYLOR Henrietta bap 27 Jun 1787 (d and bur in London 1849)

At this point the family moved near Cardigan in Wales, although I haven't been able to locate them anywhere in the Universal British Directory 1791.

They are proving to be elusive and I'd be delighted if you found something.

Thanks again
Phyl

Hi Peter

Thank you so much for doing this. It helps a lot to get this detail when so much was just hearsay before.

I really appreciate what you are doing.

Have a wonderful Christmas season
Phyl :)

Hi Phyl,

I searched the Hertfordshire Marriage Index but there is no mention of James or James Nathaniel in the period 1750-1785.

I searched the Much Hadham baptism records from 1720 - 1748 looking for James but with no success.   During that period, William and Rebecca Taylor had no less than twelve children baptised.  I could not however find a marriage for the couple at Much Hadham.   In case you are able to adopt this family in your research or need the info for elimination purposes, the twelve are as follows   ...
Mary 24Oct1731  -  Rebecca 13Sep32  -  William 06Feb34  -  Robert 23Sep35  -  John 12Oct36  -  Richard 09Feb38  -  Jane 09Mar39  -  John 03Apr40  -  Elizabeth 17Mar41  -  Catherine 15Apr42  -  Ann 07Nov43  -  Sarah 08Jan45.

Thanks so much, Peter. I think you have pretty well confirmed what I suspected - that they came from somewhere else.  Now to find where. The IGI has a good potential birth record for James in Swindon Wilts and a possible marriage in London.  I think I will follow those leads next.

Thanks again. You have been a great help. I shall do someone else a favour in return.

Phyl
