Thomas SAVAGE 1809 - Weston
« on: Thursday 01 December 05 10:31 GMT (UK) »
Thomas was born in Weston in 1809 and married Mary Worby on 1 Feb 1834.  They had three children - Charles b.1834 was christened in Ardeley, James b.1836 was christened in Weston and Sarah b.1840 was christened in Weston.

Thomas is named as the father of the boys but Sarah is described as 'baseborn'. All three childen are living with their mother and maternal grandparents in 1841.

I can only assume that Thomas has died BEFORE Sarah was born - between Aug 1836 and May 1840. Mary remarried in 1849.

I cannot find a record for his birth in 1809 or his death.  Unfortunately his occupation at marriage was a Soldier - if he died in conflict where could that be? If he was unaccounted for (believed dead) would Mary have had to wait to before she was able to remarry?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks Angie,

I'll check out that death certificate.

I understood what baseborn meant. Mary Savage daughter is not the only child born before her second marriage. There are two more sons born in 1843 and 1845 but these have her second husband named as the father and if you were unaware that they weren't married until 1849 you'd never know.
