1841 census Ampthill
« on: Thursday 01 December 05 16:26 GMT (UK) »
I would like to find John WOODLAND aged about 14 [father was Richard] in Ampthill in 1841 - I say Ampthill because that is where he was born - he may be elsewhere learning his trade...

Thanks

cathy

Many thanks, David.

I have heard of Slutts End in Ampthill before but I do not think it exists now   ;D

I'm not surprised that it no exists as I can't imagine that it would be a sought after address, even spelt with two Ts! "And where do you live my dear". "Sluts End, vicar". Doesn't have quite the same ring to it as Paddock Close or The Ridings or whatever!

I wonder what its derivation is, apart from the obvious.

See: http://www.oldmap.co.uk/Bedfordshire.html
