Hi i am looking for anyone who has relations or ancestors by the name of Freeland "Free" "Friel". My great great Grandfather was John Freeland and married Catherine in Scotland 1857. On their wedding certificate his father is Patrick and his mother Mary. John was born about 1825. On one the the certificates the name Kilgarven is shown and i wondered if anyone knew of the name

Kilgarvan is a village about 10km east of Kenmare in Co. Kerry. It is located on the Roughty (a local river). It is sort of in between the Iveragh and Beara peninsulas. However, there are no Freelands listed in Kerry. There are a few Friels. Hope this information helps.

Hi Biddybarracks
Thanks for that information about Friels being in Kilgarven, perhaps one of them will see this website and get in touch you never know

Sorry, Lukie. I should clarify, the Friels listed in the telephone book are mostly in Tralee and north Kerry, none listed in the vicinity of Kilgarvan, unfortunately.  :'(
