1841 Census - Brighton

I am trying to trace Thomas Pridgeon born 1819 in Lancashire and Caroline Stopford both of whom may have been in the area in 1841. Any information on the Stopford or Pridgeon families gratefully received.

Thomas may have been living around German Place, he was at 21 German Place in 1846.

Sorry, but I do not think you will get much response for someone who might have been in the area in 1841

The 1841 census is not indexed in any way and Brighton consists of over 1000 pages, some of which are virtually blank and unreadable.

Do you have any other info that might lead to a definite address or location in the1841

Hi Chris,

I thought it was a long shot. All I have to go on is the following:

Thomas Pridgeon married Sarah Whitmore in Brighton in 1846. They lived at 21 German Place at that time. I know where sarah was in 1841 (working in the Marquis of Granby in Redhill) but Thomas is a bit of a mystery. At some point he joined the 10th hussars, where or when I don't know. Whilst Thomas was in the crimea and elsewhere sarah worked for the Stopford family at Drayton House in Northamptonshire. I am in touch with Drayton House and their archives (Caroline Stopford's diary) refer to visits to Brighton in the early 1840's, exactly where I do not know.

As the Stopford family have quite a noble pedigree I wondered if anybody would recognise the name in connection with the gentry of Brighton. This of course is a very long shot. The best bet is German Place for Thomas Pridgeon.
