1841, 1851 census look-up please
« on: Friday 09 December 05 16:36 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Cornelius Morrell.

He was born circa 1798 in Bedfordshire.

In 1851, he was residing in Bedfordshire.  Would someone please look up the 1851 record for me?  I would really appreciate it.  Anything in 1841 would be great too!

I believe his wife's name was Hannah.

Hi Susan

I've been through Blunham in 1841 and cannot see any Morells, or anyone else described as a baptist minister.

Whilst in 1851 the niece has been transcribed as Toden in the index, I think it may well be Foden and the place of birth Stayley Bridge (Stalybridge is just outside Manchester where Hannah was from). The enumerators Fs and Ts were almost identical, and his St was almost the same as his H.

Regards

David

Hi,
I have a book with an inscription referring to Cornelius Morrell who was in Manchester in 1825. We know that Cornelius's wife Hannah was born in Manchester and I brought the book from an antiques fair 12 miles from Leicester. The book was a gift from a Mrs Tysick if that means anything!.
If this sounds of interest please let me know at (*).
                                              All the best,
                                                  Pete.

1841    HO107/102/5
Sheffield Road, Stayley, Ashton under Lyne
Cornelius Morrel(l), 40, Bt Minister, No
Hannah Morrel(l), 35, No

A history of Blunham Strict Baptist Church says that 'Then Cornelius Morrell came for 10 years until 1852, when William Abbott came as Pastor and stayed for 38 years.'

Another history shows that he was in Stalybridge in 1833 :
The Rev. Richard Lewis, M.D., the fifteenth Pastor, was born on the twenty-fifth of July, 1817, at Llanidoles, North Wales, but left that place when very young. He was baptized in the year 1833, when sixteen years of age, by Rev. Cornelius Morrell, Pastor of the Baptist Church at Stalyl iridge.

He is mentioned in a book by the Rev Hugh Binning as being at Stalybridge, but my computer won't let me access it! It may be the same as the above entry.

In 1896 a Cornelius Morrell Foden was a JP in Burnley.
