Yet another fleeting visit Kimberley!?Whether it is relevant to the Sophia Morrison I can't be certain, but the only Morrison/Sophia Marriage I could find is one between a William Morrison and a Sophia Charlton at Warrington St Paul in 1844.

Regards
William Russell Jones
Cefn Mawr
Wrexham.

Thanks William

All I am 100% sure of is that Sophia MORRISON was recorded in 1871 census living in West Derby (Edgehill) with her husband John and brother Joseph ROBERTS who was head of household.

I have d/c of Sophia MORRISON died 24 April 1877 in West Derby.

Joseph ROBERTS 43 years and Sophia MORRISON 59 years were recorded as born Holywell,Flint in 1871 census.

The 1851 entry of Sophia HAY or KAY 'widow" at 27 Back Newberry Street,Manchester may not be her at all !!

Joseph ROBERTS recorded his father as Thomas ROBERTS - "contractor" on his m/c in 1849.....I think I have Joseph's baptism 11 March 1827,Holywell to Thomas & Catherine ROBERTS of Holywell.....but cant find a Sophia ROBERTS birth/bap circa 1811/12 !!!!......maybe she was a half "Sister"...

Hi Kimberley,

I remember looking at this one on the Lancashire board.  Knotty problem!
However for what it is worth, I think your 'Sophia Kay' , living with the Robertses in 1851 is the right Sophia, based on the Roberts family groupings in 1841 and 1851. Thought it might help the Flintshire Chatters to set them out here:

1841, Great Mount St, Manchester

Thomas Roberts age 50, 'excavator'
Catherine Roberts age 50
Maria Roberts, 25
Thomas Roberts, 15
Joseph Roberts, 10       whole family born outside Lancashire.
[There is also a Sophia Kay living with Charles Kay in Hulme, Manchester]

Then in Back Newberry St in 1851 (Back Newberry St is one street away from Great Mount St)

Catherine Roberts, married, age unclear (Miss Anne Cestry says 46, but I would say sixty-something)
Sophia Kay, daughter, widowed, 41
Maria Roberts, daughter single, 35
George Roberts, grandson, 2
All born 'Wales' except little George, born Manchester.

Husband Thomas Roberts  appears to be in lodgings in Hulme, Manchester and calling himself a widower.

None of which helps you find Sophia's birth however! But I do think you have it right so far.  Don't give up!  :D
