Agnes FRASER of Morebattle, 1861 census
« on: Sunday 11 December 05 08:28 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Agnes Fraser, I have is a copy of the marriage registration in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia when she married John Roger Stewart on 27th December 1872 when Agnes was 28.  It gives her birth place as Morebattle, and I know that her parents were Archibald Fraser and Ellen Dalgleish.  Would someone be kind enough to look in the 1861 census and see if they can see a family that meets this description.
thanks

Thanks to all those people who read my posting.  I have many more details of my Agnes Fraser now, she didnt leave Scotland until 1854 I think, as that is when she arrived in Australia.  I would still like to find her in the census, but thanks to all who tried.

I have a copy of a marriage certificate for Jane Fraser to George Lang from Hammilton Vic. Janes parents are Archibald Faser and Hellen Dalgleish and they were orginally from Morebattle, sailing to Australia in 1854 on the Joseph Rowan. Jane had a sister called Agnes. According to a book on the Stewart & Fraser Clans in Australia I have, Agnes married John Roger Stewart on 27th December 1872. I really think we have a hit here and are related. I have a bit of info if you are interested. I know you have Ellen as Agnes's mother and the name I have is Helen, but everything else checks out exactly. According to my book Helen was in the 1841 census as living with her husband Archibald and their 2 daughters Janet and Jane. Jane was born in 1839.

Thanks for that info emjay, that is helpful.  Your Jane certainly looks like my Agnes' big sister, Ozchick.  The book that you have, Ozchick, is that the one that Nancy Jones and Vicki Geary put together, I have it too.  I would be interested in any information that you have.  Are you in Western Australia too?
regards
Diane

Thanks for the confirmation of the 1841/51 census emjay.
Yes Diane it is the same book and that's pretty much all the info I have so I don't know how helpful I could be, but I am interested in exchanging info. And yes I am in WA also. Are you listed in the book at all?

Hi Ozchick,
well it is not me who is listed in the book, it is my husband's family, but on page 28, Mary Stewart marries George Gilbert Hatwell, hy husband is the grandson of them, living down the road from where Agnes and John Roger settled in WA.  What about you?

Hi Diane,
I'm on page 71 as a descendant of Jane Fraser. My great grandfather, Simeon Lang, was one of her sons.
I grew up in Perth but now I live about 100km south of Perth.
I've noticed a couple of anomalies in the book and I know there have been a few births and deaths since it's publication so we'll have to PM each other and exchange info.
Warm regards, Jenny.
