That is brilliant, thank you so much for your help.

Your information gives me so much to work on. I felt sure there must be more family members around.I can now start searching for them.

Augustine was my husbands gt grandfather who came to England before 1861, he and most of his descendants were musicians.

Many, many thanks
Jill

OK SO,

On the same ifhf - rootsireland site I found the following

Ellen Britt marriage to Edmond Downey

In 1837 in SS Peter & Paul Parish Clonmel Tipperary

Tipperary is the county that Ellen Britt was born in.

I reckon the Downey as opposed to Dorney was a mis-trancription (I think you said that you have come across this miss-spelling before !

You have been so busy! Thank you so much, I really do appreciate all your help.

I have tried looking for Monica Dorney ( mentioned on the 1901 census) who I guess would be the grand daughter of Ellen Dorney. She was born in Liverpool so might be a connection to other Dorneys living in England. Not had any luck so far but will keep trying.

Again,many many thanks

Jill

Glad to be able to help Jill.

I looked for Monica too but no joy so far - she was obviously named after her aunt Monica ie Augustine's sister !

Not sure if you still check this Jill but I just came across this on a Google search, I believe my great grandfather was a relative of yours, he was Joseph Dorney who was born in Manchester England but his father was a musician from Waterford also named Joseph Dorney (his parents were Augustine and  Ellen)

Wow, this is wonderful. First time any of my postings have produced any relatives.
The Dorneys are my late husbands family and Augustine and Ellen were his great grand parents. I have been trying for years to find a family for him as his father (Richard) was the son of Bernard, son of Augustine died before my husband was born.
I am happy to let you have the information I have gathered so far.
