SIMMONDS Census, Brighton
« on: Thursday 09 September 04 16:50 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please check the 1871 or any earlier censuses for Brighton for:
Edward SIMMONDS  b 1810, Bushey, Herts.
All I know is he was buried in Brighton in 1875, so hoping to find family with him.
Many thanks if you can help, it would be really appreciated.
Hazel

Hi there Hazel

Welcome to Rootschat and the Sussex Boards

Whilst browsing through the 1841 census for Brighton, I have come across several simmonds / simmons families, but not as yet that match up with your criteria.

You give very little details to go on and as yet I do not have access to 1861 or 1871 for Brighton or Sussex - do you have any further info please to help narrow down the search

Thanks

Thanks so much for writing!
I am sorry I have so few details.
This Edward Simmonds is my gg grandfather's brother & it is frustrating that I can't find any of the English family.  I have traced another brother who went to Australia & had a great holiday meeting hundreds of family on that line.
All I know is he was born in Bushey, Herts in 1810 which I have confirmed from parish records.  The old family bible says he died in Brighton in March 1875 & I have found the death record & am waiting for that certificate to arrive, in the hope the informant is related.
My Australian cousins think I am pretty useless still not being able to find the English family really!  By 1841 he may not yet have moved to Brighton, I guess he would have been there in 1871 which is why I asked after seeing such a lot of great help on this site.  I have no idea what happened to him inbetween.
I really appreciate you trying to help - this guy is going to be difficult, I have been wanting to trace him for 25 years!
Thanks again,
Hazel

Hi Hazel

Unfortunately the part of the 1851 census for Brighton that I possess is HO107/ 1647 that mostly covers Shoreham, Steyning, etc.

I do have the 1841 census for the whole of Brighton, but thats a long hard slog as there are some 360+ pages without a name index to look through.

Sorry to be negative
