1841 Salford look up please
« on: Sunday 18 December 05 15:27 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a Charles Twigg with a wife Hannah and daughter Frances.

Frances was born in Northwich, Cheshire c.1819 and married in July 1841 at Manchester Cathedral. I've just found a Charles Twigg listed at 12 Preston's Place, Salford in the 1839 Piggotts Directory and wondered if somebody could check if this could be 'my' Charles.

Hi

Good news - I think I've found Frances Twigg

Bad news - she is living separately from her parents.

1841 census Salford, Broughton, Albion Place
HO 107/579/5 folio 23 pg 5
Frances Twigg; 21; FS; Y [born in county]

She is living in a house with a young family but probably as a boarder - doesn't look like the sort of household to have their own servant.

No Charles Twig(g)/s as adults in the area.

Found a Charles & Ann Twiss [both 50 years], with a Joseph aged 21 in Manchester Deansgate pieces, but no occupations listed for any of them though all born out of county.  Handwriting is poor but there are other Twiss's, so maybe not them?

What did Charles "do"?

Sorry not to be more help

Thanks for looking Sandra.

On the 1841 marriage cert. Frances has given her father's occupation as 'lodgekeeper'. Frances' address was George Leigh Street but I think someone has checked that for me before and not found her.

I'm guessing this is one of those wandering families that are so hard to track. I have been unable to trace Charles & Hannah in 1851 although a family sampler gives their DOD as after this date.
