1851 Census - Turner
« on: Wednesday 21 December 05 11:20 GMT (UK) »
Fanny Louisa Turner married Mark Haines Edlin at Kensington Parish Church by banns on the 18th May 1855.  Her father George Turner was a licence victualler on the marriage certificate, I believe of the Queens Head (Uxbridge or Pinner?)

Both parties gave their address as 5 Newlands Street but this seems to be an address of convenience as Mark was a recently widowed farmer from Ickenham age 22 and lived all his life in that area.

Fanny was born in Pimlico in around 1836.  Can anyone find the Turner family for me please in the 1851 or earlier census?

I have now found a brother John Turner born around 1846 in Pimlico (or Chelsea or Sheperds Bush depending on which census you believe)

John married Mary Ann Holland from Emmington Oxfordshire in 1866 in St Giles District and so it is much more likely that the family is still in the area of his birth in 1851 rather than the Uxbridge area to which they migrate later via Ealing.

Thanks Sheddyg,

It's too close for comfort but the dates are worrying.

Fanny gets married in May 1855 and should be 14.  This marriage is three months after the death of her husband's first wife after two years of marriage and no children.  He was 22 in 1855.  Their first child is born 16 months after their marriage in October 1856.

John should only be 4 and is very consistent about his age in subsequent census.  I can't see him subtracting six years to be younger than his wife.

but the birth places could fit.

I have tried checking the birth dates against freebmd and the only ones which match seem to actually have the surname Tanner.  I think that I am still searching.

Don't worry Sheddyg.  Its a sufficiently good match that they are still on my "might be" list.

Hi Lesanne

Nice to hear from you again.  The reason I picked up your Turner query some weeks ago was that I was looking for a Turner connection but I have no evidence that they moved west of Uxbridge.  You cost me a curry by the way just before Christmas, not that I am grumbling.
