Grenadier Guards & 1901 Census
« on: Wednesday 21 December 05 19:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi

im trying to locate the following private soldier who served with the Grenadier Guards (3rd Btn) No: 1932 on the 1901 census if possible or any other details surrounding his service.

Joseph Dinsdale born 1872 Scarah Bank, Clint, Yorks died Dec 1944

Acc. to his sons bc dated April 1901 he was a private soldier. i have requested a lookup for him & his family on the Yorkshire board, but he isnt enumerated with his family, his wife is described as Head with 2 children.  Does anyone know where the 3rd Btn were at the time of the 1901C & how would you locate them on a census?

Also how do you find out details about an individuals service history etc?

Any help much appreciated

Kind regards & merry christmas to you all  8)

Hi Sharren!

The War Diaries of the Grenadier Guards are now on line!!

http://tinyurl.com/8z5ka

Also it may be worth mentioning that the Guards hold copies of nearly all their service records. If you contact the Grenadier Guards archives at Wellington Barracks and arrange a visit or request copies -  they can provide attestation papers and possibly correspondence. Phone no. 020 7414 3221 - the office may have gone to just one day a week being open now !
