1841 census look up please - HARRIS
« on: Wednesday 21 December 05 22:12 GMT (UK) »
Would be grateful for a lookup on 1841 census if at all possible for

Thomas HARRIS  aged 9   born  Throwley

He was living in Throwley in 1851 so would seem most likely place (hopefully!)
Porbably had a brother James Harris aged 14

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Wilma

Hi Wilma,

Throwley parish registers are all online:

http://www.kent-opc.org.uk/Parishes/T/Throwley/Baptisms.htm

You'll find details of Thomas and his siblings. I've had a look through the 1841 census for Throwley, but can't see the family there. These are all that I could find that were relevant:
ref HO107 476-05 folio 7 page 5: Snoad Street, Throwley
William Harris age 20 MS (male servant) employed by James Pepper

ref HO107 476-05 folio 11 page 14: Throwley
George Harris age 16 MS (male servant) employed by Thomas Dodd

Hope this helps,
xx Carol

Thanks a lot for the information.   Have found a baptism in 1834 for Thomas Harris at Boughton under Blean and believe this is correct chap.   Do you have 1841 census for this parish?   If so a look up would be greatly appreciated.   Think parents are Richard & Ann

Thanks again Wilma

Hi Wilma,
The 1841 census for Boughton under Blean is not very easy to read, I couldn't see a Thomas age about 6/7, but he may be there. Here's the entry for Richard and Ann, in case it's useful:
ref HO107 471-11 folio 11 page 29: South Street, Boughton
Richard Harris age 40 ag lab
Ann do age 40
Harriett do age 14
John do age 12
Eliza do age 8
Ann do age 4
Alfred do age 2
all born in county
There seems to be a bit of a gap where Thomas should fit in, maybe he died ?

Looks like I presumed too much.  Have found the Thomas I am looking for in Throwley parish registers and it is a different family to this one (though likely related).

Thomas was son of a John & Jane HARRIS and was baptised October 1833.
Will have to try and follow back this line.   Your help has been great - sorry you had to look up wrong family.

Cheers

Wilma

Thanks again.   I am gradually piecing this family together and finding the usual scenarios of cousins with same christian name!

Grateful for the help

Wilma
